About Me

My name is Samantha Wilson. When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia, called Myelocytic Myeloid Leukaemia, and after months of chemotherapy and hospital treatment I was given just 3 weeks to live.

Reluctant Rebels

Thanks to the efforts of my parents and an amazing herbalist called Charles Abbott, I survived, and I now run a successful therapy business in Heywood where I offer a range of therapy treatments and professional training.

I have spent my life passing on the message that there is always hope, no matter how poorly and bleak the future looks.

I have now launched a book called “Reluctant Rebels” to spread the message.

Reluctant Rebels

This book is the story of my life, which was not expected to last past my childhood. I am living proof that alternative medicine can cure cancer, after being given just three weeks to live – more than 40 years ago.

I was admitted to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where I was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer which causes immature cells to develop rapidly and my parents were told that I had little chance of survival.

Reluctant Rebels

The Leukaemia was spreading rapidly and, after receiving high doses of chemotherapy, it got to a stage where the doctors said that if they gave me anymore it would kill me. They said they could do no more as the chemotherapy had only prolonged my life and would not save me.

My parents then contacted the well-known herbalist Charles Abbott at Abbotts of Leigh. The herbalist at the centre tested my blood and then prescribed a series of remedies, together with a strict diet.

After five weeks, I was still alive, and my family believed I had been thrown a lifeline. I had lotions rubbed on my body every day together with taking a selection of herbs and was put on a diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, and pulses.

I was given the all clear six years later, when I was 14, and the hospital confirmed that I did not have any Leukaemia cells. They never admitted that it was down to remedies, but my family and I knew. The herbs had healed my body and my blood.

Reluctant Rebels

The book talks about my sickness, my treatment, how I coped with the long hospital admissions, school, growing up and my eventual cure.

School

I had a tough time in school. My immune system was low and when my parents kept me off school to keep me safe, they were threatened with a court order, with the prospect of my father going to prison.

I was very weak, which children took advantage of and I was terribly bullied.

My parents took me out of school, and I was then home-schooled.

Abbotts of Leigh

Abbotts of Leigh was founded by Charles Abbott (1889-1983). His interest in herbalism began when he was 17 years of age, when he was cured against all expectations of Tuberculosis, by a Bolton herbalist under whom he then studied. Charles Abbott opened his herbal clinic on Railway Road, Leigh in 1910, when he was just 21 years of age.

Reluctant Rebels

His practice thrived and he was seeing around 10,000 patients a year drawn from all walks of life, including the titled and the famous.

He became a household name throughout Lancashire and Cheshire. In 1972 at the age of 83, he was still practicing and had 2,400 registered patients and a long waiting list.

He died at the age of 94.
